diaper gym is back on tomorrow

That's right! Ring the bells, shout it from the rooftops, diaper gym is back on tomorrow!

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm ready to get up in the mornings, actually get out of my pajamas and get out of the house for a few hours to reconnect with people who aren't fighting, crying and using their heads as weapons. Although, if any of you get into that I suppose I'll pick a side and join the fray.

Tomorrow: 9:30-11:30am as usual! I hope to see everyone there.

There will be a giant pot of coffee waiting. I'll be there at 9 as usual after I drop my oldest off at school if anyone else is up and at 'em early.

welcome to diaper gym (email)

Hello Everyone!

I hope everyone had a great summer and is ready to hop back into the routine of the fall/winter season. I know my kids are very excited about Grade 1 and nursery school this fall. I can't believe that it's here already.

With the school year comes the 2011/2012 Diaper Gym year! We're going to start back up this Friday, September 9th at 9:30. Same time and same place. For those of you who would like to forward this email on to your friends with pre-school aged kids, here are the details:

  • Portage Diaper Gym, Located at St Mary's Hall - 36 2nd St. SW
  • It's on the middle floor of the building (there's a daycare on the lowest floor, and a thrift shop on the top floor)
  • We meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30-11:30, but feel free to come a little earlier if you're out and about dropping off kids at school or out of your house early.
  • Diaper gym is open to any families with preschool children, babies and newborns.
  • Our yearly fee is $25, and it goes toward a donation to the church for the use of the hall, as well as coffee, kleenex, toys, coloring and craft supplies for the kids, etc.
  • Coffee is provided, but you'll need to bring your own snacks and drinks for your kids.

As always, diaper gym is a casual, friendly place to hang out, mingle with other parents, and let the kids socialize and play. We are fairly unstructured, but from time to time do organize a craft or game day. We usually have a diaper gym party on the last diaper gym day before holidays. Last year Santa visited us just before Christmas!

We also like to plan Mom's Nights Out from time to time, and will go out and have a meal together somewhere in town. Last year we had talked about having a Mom's Night in and planning a game night somewhere, but the year slipped by too quickly. This year for sure!

I am the main contact person for diaper gym, but remember that input is always welcome from all members. If anyone wants to organize a game, craft, or event of some kind feel free to do so!

I hope to see everyone at the hall soon!

Tiffany Verwey

ps - please forward this to anyone you know who may be interested in joining our playgroup!

early wednesdays, friday's dance party!

Hello! A couple of things:

1. This Wednesday and next Wednesday (April 6 and 13) the church is having functions. We can still have diaper gym at the hall, but we need to be out by 11, so we'll have to remember to start cleaning up by about 10:45.

Also, Ange and I are generally at diaper gym around 9am. We drop our kids off at school before 9 and then just head straight to the hall instead of going home for a half hour. If anyone wants to join us earlier we'd love to have you!

2. This Friday, April 8th, we're going to bring music for the kids to have a little dance party. Freeze dance, musical chairs, any other ideas, etc. We haven't done a whole lot in the way of crafts and stuff this year, because most of the kids are younger (last year we had more 3 and 4 year olds), but we figured that even the little guys can get excited about dancing and bopping around to some fun music!

Hope to see everyone soon.

Mom's Night Out - Dec 8

The next Mom's Night Out will be this Wednesday, December 8th at 7:00pm at Tornado's Restaurant.

Christmas Party - December 17th

Last week at diaper gym we talked about having a Christmas party this year. We settled on Friday, December 17th - regular diaper gym time and location. I talked to the minister, and the 17th shouldn't conflict with any church teas or functions.

Last year one of the dads volunteered to be Santa, and we each brought a small wrapped gift for our own children for Santa to give. We put a $5 limit on the gift to keep it fair for the kids.

If we're going to do Santa again this year, we will need a dad, grandpa, or uncle, to volunteer to be Santa. If you know of anyone who might be willing to do this, please ask them and then let me know ASAP. We'll do Santa at 10:30am so we're not rushed, and will still have lots of time for cleanup.

We'll also need a Santa suit. If you have one, or know of someone who has one that we could borrow that would be awesome!! Again, let me know ASAP.

If we can't find these things, we'll still do a Christmas party, but without Santa.
This went over exceptionally well last year, so we're hoping to do it again!

The other thing we usually do is bring food and goodies to share. In years past we've had cookies, dainties, fruit, etc. If anyone wants to bring anything, maybe reply and let me know what you'd like to bring and we'll make a note of it just so that we don't have monstrous amounts of food. Not that monstrous amounts of food is a bad thing. But still. :)

Hope to see everyone this week. If you have any feedback or ideas for the Christmas party, let me know!

Monday, October 25, 2010

This Friday, October 29th - there will be no diaper gym. The hall is closed for a church function.

We'll do our diaper gym 50/50 raffle draw next Wednesday, November 3rd. Please try and get your tickets sold and returned by that day! I think we're actually doing quite well selling our tickets. Imagine if we could sell them all?

mom's night - oct 8

We're planning a Mom's Night Out at Boston Pizza's Lounge next Friday, October 8th at 7:00pm. Let me know if you think you might be able to make it!

We're also fund raising right now. We're selling 50/50 tickets. They're $2 each, and the prize will be as much as $300! I'll have them with me at diaper gym, so let me know if you'd like some or if you need more. The draw date is the last Friday in October.

We facebook too! Look HERE for the facebook page. Be sure to sign up as a member, or leave a comment, post a picture, bake some brownies . . .

I'm compiling a diaper gym phone list. Other years people have wanted everyone's names and numbers to make it easier to set up play dates or meet up outside of diaper gym. I've been adding people to the list again this year and will distribute it shortly (probably by email). Let me know if for any reason you'd like to be left off the list.

No worries - the phone list will NOT be posted on the blog or the facebook page.

first week wrap-up

Our Diaper Gym open house week has wrapped up! It's been a fantastic week, we've met a number of new families, oohed and aahhed over each others cute kids and had a few good visits! I hope everyone had a good time and will join us this year!

We are always happy to have new moms, dads and kids in our diaper gym group - feel free to join at any time throughout the year, and to come by first and check us out before officially registering.

Again, we meet Monday, Wednesday and Fridays at St. Mary's Hall (address above) from 9:30- 11:30 over the school year.

Welcome Back!

I can't believe how far into September we are already. Most peoples' kids are in school already, except mine, but she'll start Monday, so all is good!

Diaper Gym starts back up next week. We'll begin with an open house - we won't register anyone or collect fees next week (Sept 13 - 17). The annual fee will be $25 again this year.

As usual, Diaper Gym will be open September through June, and closed on stat holidays. We'd love some input from everyone, new members and old, as to what kind of activities and toys you'd like to see here this year! We're going to do a 50/50 raffle in September and October with the hopes of grabbing a few new toys and craft supplies.

Our year will again include Christmas and Halloween parties, a few planned activities, and of course lots of Mom's Nights Out!

Looking forward to seeing everyone!
